Walls Cambodia

walls cambodia, a new underground festival

The urban art scene is growing within the kingdom and a handful of artists have been responsible for this since its early years. One of these names is Theo Valier. If you’ve been following the urban art scene in Cambodia you’ve probably seen his name popping up.

Walls Cambodia was happening last weekend. A small street art festtival organized by Theo Valier, with the mission to promote the growth of the street art community in Cambodia. This event took place in the center of Phnom Penh in the so-called Palace Lane, a hidden alley past a few bars, including an underground artist’s bar named Bong Bong Bong. Along side this alley you’ll find walls covered in beautiful murals.

This festival brought together young promising local artists, such as Koeng Rithy, the Sokheng, Daro Sam & Rhanon Phal, where they jointly renew a wall with art. Next door, underground rap formation B-Side performed their new EP. Visit the Walls Cambodia Facebook page to view photos of this event.

Theo Valier contacted me and the above mentioned artists, to design each a skateboard deck especially for this event. Scroll further for the photos. These decks hang on the wall of Bong Bong Bong and can still be admired in this bar at the time of writing. Feel free to drop by the bar and have a look.
