Cambodia is modernizing, and with it the need for a new visual language is desired. One that reflects contemporary Cambodia. The traditional imagery of Angkor Wats and Apsaras are outdated, and you can hear this clearly on the streets, and so as with this particular client.
The client is Fairfield by Marriot, a franchise of Marriott International. They wish to decorate one of their restaurant walls at their new location inside the newly build Chipmong Tower on the Russian Boulevard in Phnom Penh, Cambodia, which is set to open on the 1st of April, 2023.
My assignment was to go beyond the traditional Khmer imagery, and to capture a feeling of Phnom Penh’s daily life. They wished for something different, something new, with colors that matches their interior.
The dimensions of the walls are 3.85m x 3.35m.
